I went and read the list of books and it brought back so many, many memories. I've read a good deal of that list to my children. I read the Narnia series when my kids were 4, 6, and 8. They loved them. People do underestimate a child's ability to comprehend. Reading to my kids every night for 16 years was one of the best things I ever did as a parent.
Hope,
Do your children remember? Do they talk about you reading aloud?
I wonder if my children will read to theirs..
My kids do remember. Youngest son (age 20)and I were reminiscing the other night about the favourites. Two Little Savages was one of the best for them all. So much so that when I sold it at a home school fair and had to buy another copy eventually. The Little Britches series by Ralph Moody another favourite.
I started reading to them because my mother in law read to her children - and she had 11 of them - and it was such a positive memory for my husband. We read some of the same books he had heard as a child. I would read to them the last thing at night before bedtime.
I have plans this summer to buy copies of all the favourites so that they will each have a library of them for their own homes.
